Katherine Jenkins has been forced to deny she had an affair with David Beckham after false rumours circulated on Twitter.
Katherine Jenkins took to Twitter today to deny rumours that she is having an affair with David Beckham.
The Welsh singer isseed a statement claiming she had only met the footballer twice and said she had never been on her own with Beckham.
The rumours swept Twitter after a picture of a fake magazine cover started doing the rounds, which claimed that Beckham had left his wife, Victoria.
Numerous users tweeted the unfounded rumour that the alleged affair was covered by a superinjunction.
Although others took to Twitter to point out they had not even heard of the rumour until she brought it up.
A spokesman for Beckham said the allegations were “rubbish” and “nonsensical”.
Jenkins tweeted: “Dear Twitter friends, I’ve read some horrible rumours on here & want u 2 know I absolutely deny I’ve had an affair with David Beckham.
“The rumours are very hurtful, untrue & my lawyers tell me actionable.
“I’ve only met David twice: once at the Military Awards in 2010 & on a night out in the West End in Feb 2012.
“We were out in a group of friends & it was just a normal fun evening out.
“Just so we are clear I have never been on my own with him and never arranged to meet up.”
Jenkins spotted at the same club as Beckham in February where it was claimed she had partied with the footballer and Prince Harry until the early hour. They were later spotted leaving separately.
Jenkins is rumoured to be dating dancer Derek Hough whom she me on Dancing With The Stars.
The singer split up with her fiancé Gethin Jones, last December just six months before the couple had planned to marry.
At the time Jenkins, 31, confirmed the break-up on Twitter saying she was “beyond broken-hearted”.
Earlier Jones, a children’s television presenter, had tweeted: “Hi everybody. I’m deeply sad to tell you that Kath and I have ended our relationship as couple. We are both heartbroken.”
The couple have been together for four years and became engaged in January 2010 when Jones, 33, bought a diamond ring from a Bond Street jeweller.
They shared a £4.7 million home in London but had struggled to spend time together because of their work schedules.
Jenkins, from Neath, South Wales, has previously described Gethin as “The One”.
Twitter is a regular source of fake celebrity rumours.
The social networking site has reported the deaths of Mick Hucknall, Bill Cosby and Hugh Hefner, all of whom are very much alive.
Hefner, 85, sent his own tweet confirming that he was not dead. Referring to his 24-year-old girlfriend, Playboy model Shera Bechard, he said: “I’m lying in bed next to Shera with a big smile on my face, reading tweets about my unexpected demise.”
